Down By The Claddagh

In 1913, a hundred years ago this year, two French ladies, Marguerite Messpoulet and Madeleine Migon –Alba arrived in Galway as part of the task of photographing life and the historic sites of Ireland. The project was the brainchild of French banker and philanthropist Albert Kahn who instigated a world wide project entitled ‘The Archives of the Planet’, a project designed to capture the world on the cusp of great change at the beginning of the 20th century.
